InterMixx.concert Charity Fund Raiser to Benefit Sweet Relief hit ACME on March 11th, 2001
3/13/2001
The level of cooperation and support amongst the musicians was greater
than I have ever seen, and it truly was a huge compliment to the success
of InterMixx as a supportive collective of musicians.
Their generosity shined as well, and I managed to raise $150.00 for the
Sweet Relief Musicians Fund as musicians who were already giving so much of themselves
just by performing, dug even deeper and bought raffle tickets, and
donated $10 and $20 bills for Miller's Farm CDs that Bryan donated.
Here's a quick synopsis:
Kathy Fleischmann returned to the stage for her second InterMixx.concert
at ACME, and once again wowed the room with her finger-guitar work (no
picks for this girl!) and her lovely voice.
Miller's Farm really served as the perfect crescendo for the acoustic
set and the crowd went crazy over their "country music for city folk."
Especially the hilarious "No your ass don't look fat in those jeans." :)
The Farmers started the set as a pared down acoustic duo, but then they
harvested the bassist they had apparently planted somewhere near the
stage and grew to a trio midway through. Amazingly fast germination on
those bassists! ;)
Then the ROCK came, and Green Inside really shined. Their disc does not
do the live show justice and I was extremely pleased with their set.
Very impressive and original music. Great stage presence and performance.
Snakes 'n Angels gave us an inspiring set of classic rock with a North
Carolina flavor as Nannette treated us to her strong and lovely voice,
while JC added perfect harmonies. The two also impressed with their
guitar work and the drummer did not fail us, he twirled his sticks and
kept a serious beat. This was their very first NYC performance! I was
proud that it was for an InterMixx.concert.
It was a true pleasure to see JC on stage and performing as I am sure
many of you remember his recent serious medical situation, which had us
all quite worried about him for a while. The man is a fighter!!! I was
so happy to see him in such good spirits and still rockin and rollin.
Then The Limit took the stage and Mark Daniel's legendary wildman antics
really made a climactic impact on the Rock set. The Limit is a crowd
pleaser and it's hard to sit still when they perform. True showmanship
and a rock solid performance. Very tight musically and the songs are powerful.
The final act was a new addition to InterMixx and I am very pleased to
have them aboard. 51 Peg traveled up from DC to perform for us and their
professionalism, great attitude and solid performance really made a
perfect ending to a seriously top notch night of music. Their brand of
techno-rock is amazing to me, because as a fan of that style of music I
know how difficult it can be to create a unique sound, but the Peg has
done it, and combined with big concert style stage presence and
showmanship, this band has a real solid shot at success.
I can't thank the participants enough for making this a really positive
experience.

The line-up was one of the sweetest I think I have ever had the pleasure
of organizing! What a magic mixture of music! Truly a music lovers
smorgasbord. Great, great show by very talented performers. Top flight
professionalism.
Ashlin Halfnight opened at 7, right on schedule. His introspective
acoustic songs were the perfect beginning. Fine vocals and guitar work,
with occasional accompaniment from a lovely friend with an equally
lovely voice.

InterMixx.com, Inc. presents the fourth in a successful series of showcase events that have traveled the country.
Starting in Dayton, Ohio, moving to Charleston, West Virginia and then touching down in New York City, the concert tour was a great success. Many InterMixx bands showcased their original music to large crowds of apopreciative fans, and the events raised $600 for a wonderful charity organization.
Now with the fourth concert in the series, InterMixx heads back to NYC to continue supporting and promoting indie music and helping indie musicians with one of the biggest problems facing them... medical emergencies. Sweet Relief is a very generous undertaking by a woman who is going way above and beyond
to "give back" a little after she received so much help in her own personal crisis.

InterMixx.concerts to Benefit the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund were a great success!
In 1992, while opening for Neil Young, Williams began experiencing a numb feeling in her hands which made it increasingly difficult to play her guitar. Upon visiting a doctor, she was diagnosed with the degenerative neurological disorder multiple sclerosis. The medical bills quickly piled up, and like many musicians, she was not covered by health insurance. In response, her manager began assembling friends and fans to record Williams' songs for a benefit album; the result, 1993 Sweet Relief: A Benefit for Victoria Williams, featured the likes of Pearl Jam, Lou Reed, Matthew Sweet, the Jayhawks and Soul Asylum, whose rendition of "Summer of Drugs" was the record's first single.
Due to its all-star line-up, Sweet Relief far outsold any of Williams' own efforts, raising not only funds for her medical treatment but her visibility within the musical community as well. Additionally, the record's success enabled Williams to establish the Sweet Relief Fund, created to assist other musicians with health problems; in 1996, a second tribute record, honoring the paralyzed singer/songwriter Vic Chestnutt, was released.
The first three fund raising events took place November 17th, 18th and 20th. Details follow...
